I painted this piece, titled "Disillusion," depicting a somber Mickey Mouse, as a response to my views on the current backlash faced by the Disney organization.

Growing up a ardent Disney fan in the 80s and 90s, having visited both parks numerous times, it pains me to witness the shift in their values and priorities.
Disney, once synonymous with wholesome family entertainment, now seems to be straying from its roots. The relentless pursuit of acquiring intellectual properties (IPs) appears to overshadow their commitment to nurturing and preserving their own brand.
Why is the Disney management team lost?
Overall, the reasons behind the perception of Disney's management team being "lost" are complex and multifaceted, involving a combination of internal strategic decisions, external market forces, and stakeholder expectations.
Agenda Backlash: The management's decisions and agendas may be met with backlash from audiences, shareholders, or stakeholders. This can stem from a perceived departure from the traditional values and principles that Disney was built upon.
Shift in Priorities: There might be a shift in priorities within the management team. Instead of focusing on delivering the wholesome family entertainment that Disney has been known for, they may prioritize other objectives such as profit maximization, market expansion, or diversification of content.
Acquisition Strategy: Disney's aggressive acquisition strategy, acquiring numerous intellectual properties (IPs) and companies, might be perceived as a sign of losing focus on its core brand. This approach could lead to dilution of the Disney identity in the crowded entertainment landscape.
Lack of Vision: There could be a lack of a clear and coherent long-term vision within the management team. Without a strong guiding vision, decision-making may become fragmented, leading to actions that undermine the brand's integrity and reputation.
Pressure to Adapt: In a rapidly changing entertainment landscape, there may be pressure on the management team to adapt and evolve. However, this adaptation process could be misinterpreted as a loss of direction or identity by some stakeholders.
These trends to me, risks diluting Disney's identity in the vast ocean of entertainment offerings.
However, I hold a glimmer of hope that someday, Disney's leadership will awaken to the consequences of their actions. It's my wish that this realization occurs while my daughter is still young enough to experience and cherish the magic that once defined Disney for me as a child.
In conclusion, "Disillusion" Mickey's portrayal as sad and confused encapsulates the collective disillusionment felt by many fans witnessing Disney's evolution.
This symbolizes a poignant reminder of the company's departure from its wholesome roots.
As we navigate the complexities of modern entertainment, it's crucial for Disney's management to reconnect with its foundational values. Only by addressing the concerns of its loyal audience can Disney reclaim its magic and restore faith in its brand.
Let Mickey's disillusion serve as a catalyst for introspection and renewal, guiding Disney back to the heart of what made it beloved worldwide: timeless stories, cherished memories, and unwavering enchantment.
